doll quilt CrAzY!
i have been admiring the cute doll quilts made by calamity kim, and vickie of turkeyfeathers and patternbee, and when kim started this flickr group, doll quilt CrAzY, i had to give it a go! like i don't have enough to do already!
here is a sneak preview of what i have gotten started so far. i got the pieces picked out, and sewn together, and i am doing a little embroidery on it. and then after that, i'll either wing it with the quilting part, or ask my mommy, "how you do that?"! this will be my very first real quilt! i have 'quilted' stuff, like tea cosies, but not done a quilt yet.
my mom has been quilting for quite some time. this is a quilt she made when i was a tiny kid...i still have the transfer envelope from the embroidery pattern! but not the transfers, they are long since history!
another view of more of it. this is only one of many, many she has made. i think that quilts are works of art. i had an art teacher in college that said, "anyone, who would sit and sew all those crummy little squares together, has GOT to be considered an artist!" he was talking about some of the amish 'postage stamp' quilts at the time!
and here is a closeup of one of the squares. cute sheep! i told her i was making my first quilt, a doll quilt. she said, "a doll quilt, that's about my speed!" mom...what?! you are awesome!
i love this quilt, i don't use it anymore, i'm afraid for something to happen to it, so i have it put away in my closet, close where i can see it all the time, but not where anything can happen to it! i take it out and look at it every once in a while, and then put it back safely away. i don't even ever remember not having this quilt...it is older than my memory! (i know, i know, i completely left myself open for 'old jokes', especially if my kids were to read this! they don't!)
well, i posted two posts today, because i am swamped with sewing work this week. i am such a blog-a-holic these days, i am going to stay away from the computer for a few days to get my work done, before i have people going into meltdown wondering where are their dresses! i'll be checking my e-mail, but not posting any blog stuff. so, 'see' you in a few days!

I have lots of her projects as a result. She went through a crazy-quilt phase, and I have gorgeous quilted/embroidered/beaded pillowtops and throws galore!
