we finally put up our christmas tree last week and did it in mostly pinks and silvers. it looks pretty but i think it needs tinsel. we can't put it on though...kitties will eat it, and end up in the kitty hospital!

i wanted to make cookies for the christmas cookie event at susan's site, food blogga . one of my favortie cookies that i used to make quite often was big soft ginger cookies. they were a sort of molasses crinkle cookie, where you rolled the balls of dough in sugar, and as they baked they puffed and the sugar made a crinkled look on the cookie...and they taste so, so, SO good! i have them written here in this cookbook that i have been writing in for about 20 years now! they are also in this cookie book of food writer's favorites, that has really great recipes in it. i used to made them when my kids were small, but there came to be a time where i ate waaaay more of the cookies than i needed to be eating, so i sort of stopped baking them!
now, i KNOW that when i made these when the kids were small i used margarine...i NEVER bought butter then, 'cause i was broke! the cookies puffed up nicely and crinkled-y, but when i made them this time they were kind of flat, and not all that crinkled. so i tried again, using shortening and got a little better results, but still a little flat. well, i a fairly stubborn person...i'm gonna make this work, somehow! i have butter now, and i will try that, but in the meantime, this is what the last batch looks like. they actually taste really good, but i want them to work like they used to!

so i will give it one more try, and let you know the results and post the recipe as well. someone is getting cookies though...i cannot eat these all alone!
