a couple of weeks ago, when i went to my bellydance class at the ottoman trading company, my friend dena had several coloring pages set out with crayons for the kiddies to color. i picked this one up, and took it home. i traced it with transfer pencil and tracing paper, and made this embroidery from it.

i took out all the detail when i traced it, and then put it back somewhat with the beads and sequins. i'm not feeling like it is quite finished, something not right about the neckline...maybe more 'jewelry', and more color in the top. i like doing it like this ...finding images to make up transfers with. i might try to make one of my little 'rita/salome' that comes with my profile...i love that picture! i also have a wine bottle that has a gypsy on the label that maybe would make a kind of cool embroidery as well.

That's amazing that you can do that! It's beautiful! How fun that you take Belly Dancing classes. It's something I've always wanted to do. I got a belly dancing dvd with these twins I think they're Dena & Mina or something like that. Anyway, that was no help, I'll have to find another one that has better, slower instructions. I haven't been able to find a class locally yet.

She's gorgeous. I particularly like the way you did the hem of her dress, and the jewelry on her hand. Amazing.

You have a wonderful flair and gift for just creating and putting things together! You are, indeed, blessed!

Love the embroidery! Hmmmmm. It looks fabulous! You were thinking about maybe more jewellry at the neckline..hmmmmm. Well, it looks wonderful; however, if you are not sure for the complete finish, maybe something with a bit of mother pearl; or something slightly "sparkling" that ties it all in; without taking anything away from the "look". Maybe a few more "gems" (discreet ones! LOL!) at the top!

This is Indian court dancer pic...would be my guess ( from Moghul era ) add a necklace and a side tiara and I think your pic will be complete.

Check the google - type umrao Jaan and go to wall papers 2006 - you will see some reference. Let me know if this helps.
