today i went out to deliver and pick up dresses, and decided to hit my favorite thrift store that is close on the way home. i thought i had found a great score...in the magazine rack were some old LIFE magazines. but, not just any old ones, these were ones that were the couple of weeks after the kennedy assassination. the sign said "all magazines - .25" so, i got three of them... two were the exact same magazine, the week of the assassination and one more, the week after... and i took them to the cashier. when she got to them, she could not find a price and asked me, "how much were these? where did you get them?" so when i told her, they were in the magazines, and it said they were all .25, she kinda went a little weird. so then, after calling up all kinds of people, they ended up whisking away all the magazines, including the ones i did not want, and would not sell the ones i did want to me. at least they let me leave my name, and will let me have first crack when they come up with a price, after they "check the internet" were her words.

i was so disappointed... felt like crying. it was kinda stupid, but the reason was, i really, really wanted them! i have quite a bit of kennedy stuff, my birthday is november 22nd. kennedy was assassinated november 22nd, 1963... i was turning 3 years old that day. it was only recently that i realized, that not everyone knows that date. kind of like everyone knows christmas is dec. 25th, MLK's birthday is jan. 15th, pearl harbor....i don't know what date, just the year, 1941, same year my mom was born! anyway, maybe they will call, and their price will not be scary! i was just sooo bummed!

post script! - much calmer now... after i wrote this, i emailed my mom, and she said, "try ebay, they could give you an idea how much they would be worth." (moms are so smart like that!) well, they had a few on ebay and they were not that much...except for one that wanted $4000.00! i won't be bidding on THAT one! but there were some that had two or three of the same ones for only around five bucks! i thought they would be more scarce than that! i feel better now!

I found about 200 magazines at Goodwill about Princess Diana and after her death and I felt kinda sad, like someone had been saving them, but maybe thaey passed away and the remaining family donated their collection! I bought a couple...I hope you can get them at a resonable price. Ebay is worth the hunt sometimes! They have everything eventually!! Good Luck!

That is frustrating - it isn't *your* fault they had mis-shelved them. They should have to honor that... You could call them back - sounding totally not desperate - and just let them know that the average ebay price is $5 (or whatever it is), which you'd be willing to pay today (if you are), if not, you will get them elsewhere...?

That is so disappointing!! I would of been mad too!! If something is placed out for sale it should be for sale??? Anyway glad you have other options for finding something's...
