memphis

i will finish up on our memphis trip, since it has been over a week since our return! of course, can anyone really go to memphis without going to graceland? i think not! we found that a lot of the places we went would not allow photos, but they did here. the only thing was, that you could not use flash, and i couldn't get my camera to not flash indoors, so i ended up not taking photos. but here is a link that has some very good photos of graceland.

i learned a lot about elvis there...i was never what you would call a huge fan of his. all i ever really knew about him, was what was in those awful movies they made about him after his passing. well, he was pretty fabulous after all, he was generous beyond belief, and very talented. they had a room there that had a wall that had so many checks that he had given out over the years to charities, and just folks that needed help...$1000. at a time! i was totally impressed. i thought graceland was pretty cool, the only thing we would have done differently was not take a tour bus. we took a backbeat tour, which was not bad, but it limits your time there...we would have liked to stay longer to see things better. my favorite thing was the costumes, and we did not find that area until we only had about 30 minutes left to catch our bus back to beale street where they pick you up for the tour. but the backbeat tours also had a haunted walking tour which i wanted to take, but it started the weekend after we left!
here was an amazing sunset one evening in memphis. there was one night when they had a 'severe weather warning' and we had gone to mississippi to some casinos that they had there. there was a serious lightning storm that was pretty freaky! talk about a light show!
memphis seemed to me to be all about music, history and barbeque! there are several different museums, and we went to this one, sun studio that gave elvis his start, and many other greats also started here. it was pretty interesting, but pretty small, still worth it. then we also went to stax, soulsville usa, and that was really good. we also went to the fire museum, but i will post one of those slide shows later on that one...i took lots of photos there! so i have to stop now to 'take care of business' as elvis would say! at least it looks like i may have a break in the rain at the moment, and they are already calling this morning for dresses! so i leave with this slide show of memphis images...
